Carcinogens in the package? McDonald’s and Burger King’s emergency response

On August 10, in response to the news that pfass was found in the food packaging of McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendys and other major fast food restaurants, Burger King China responded in its official microblog that the food packaging materials used by Burger King in China did not add pfass, which fully met the relevant national standards.

in addition, McDonald’s also said that pfass was not added to the food packaging materials used by McDonald’s in China.

recently, a foreign media quoted a report from ecology center, an environmental public welfare organization, that toxic PFAS was detected in the food packaging of McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendys. According to the report, in testing 38 packaging products of six brands, nearly half of the samples were found to be positive for PFAS, which means that the packaging contains the toxic substance.

American media business insider pointed out that PFAS is a kind of chemical substances related to cancer, liver injury, thyroid disease and development problems. Most people come into contact with PFAS through contaminated food or drink. PFAS can be found in almost 99% of American blood.
