Zang Tiewei, spokesman of the law working committee of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, said at a press conference held on December 12 that the draft amendment to the criminal law was first deliberated at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress in June this year. After the meeting, public opinions were solicited on the website of the people’s Congress of China. During the period, the main opinions received included increasing the punishment of sexual assault on minors. The draft amendment to the criminal law, which will be submitted to the 22nd Meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress to be deliberated on October 13, is to absorb the opinions in this respect and make amendments and improvements to the provisions on the crimes of raping young girls, molesting children, and sexual assault on minors committed by special duty personnel.
